CAD Manager/Designer

This person will develop master files, produce drawings, layouts and designs. Core engineering team is in Brooklyn, NY but this position can be remote.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with redevelopment of CAD standards, procedures and enforcement and implementing standards across the company including prepare AutoCAD drawings based on design sketches.
  • Create and maintain civil specific CAD standards manual and tools consistent with industry standards.
  • Establish tools for CAD interdisciplinary and client specific integration.
  • Update and maintain the electronic document library, to include, but not limited to CAD, and PDF/TIFF Prototypical Construction Drawings.
  • Serving as a technical resource to staff for civil specific CAD questions (e.g. Civil 3D, ESRI products, Hydro CAD, and other design tools) including related hardware, including troubleshooting individual or interdisciplinary CAD related problems.
  • Create a single comprehensive electronic library of Civil Engineering CAD details.
  • Establish and managing a quality control and enforcement process to ensure departments are consistently adhering to the established standards and procedures.
  • Providing on-going training to staff on CAD related changes/industry advancements.
  • Performing research, analysis and testing compilation of data and other CAD and technology related tasks as necessary to support engineering and surveying activities, including LiDAR, mobile mapping and imaging, remote data collection, drone and AR.
  • Prepare industry standard templates for various clients and projects.
  • Providing help desk support to IT for related software and support the Firm’s offices and teams worldwide.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, and Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT, GIS, Civil Engineering or closely related discipline
  • Experience in setting up and deploying and enforcing municipal, State, and custom CAD standards
  • Ability to develop original layouts, elevations, details, and other drafting for engineering drawings based on limited verbal direction, rough sketches or from scanned backgrounds or images.
  • Expertise in AutoCAD, Civil 3D , Arc map and Adobe photo shop to create and maintain templates, workspaces, seed files, rendering, PCFs, PCUs, UCF’s within the AutoCAD, Civil 3D , ArcMap, Adobe Photo shop, 2D, and 3D environment.
  • Previous exposure to engineering, design practices, materials used, specifications, field and construction practices, fabrication, and codes relevant to structural, civil, and/or electrical engineering including ability to read and interpret construction, shop, or design drawings
  • Civil engineering design, surveying, and IT experience preferred in the public works, commercial, residential and transportation projects.
  • In-depth working knowledge of current Autodesk products, proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a must
  • Demonstrated technical background with a broad base of experience preferably with a Civil Engineering background; a plus.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and superior organizational skills, Ability to take initiative, maintain confidentiality and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite 365 experience, SharePoint and Project Wise experience preferred.

Design Civil Engineer -Land Development

This position is responsible for providing engineering design support to the project management staff for retail, office, residential, municipal, and industrial development projects. CAD designers collaborate with our civil engineers to design a wide variety of projects including, but not limited to: roadways and sidewalks, commercial complexes and buildings, small to large subdivisions, parks and recreational facilities, medical facilities and hospitals, marinas, small airports, churches, and schools

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Design and coordination of work on multidiscipline projects ranging from due diligence/site feasibility studies, site engineering, through regulatory approvals, and full permitting for full range of site development projects
  • Develop site layout and design, including site grading and storm drainage, roadway design, water and sewer infrastructure, erosion and sediment control
  • Prepare hydrology and hydraulic calculations and be knowledgeable of NYSDEC storm water drainage and SWPPP requirements
  • Prepare engineer’s opinion of probable costs for designed projects and specifications for public bids
  • Perform project administration including writing reports, gathering information, writing proposals & correspondence, tracking project costs, and completing progress reports
  • Coordinate with other engineering and architectural departments within the firm
  • Relationship building and communication directly with clients in support and coordination of all project activities
  • Working both independently and as a team with other professionals and technicians dependent on project/task
  • Responsible for the on-time, on budget, high quality technical delivery of all project requirements

Minimum Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Strong AutoCAD/Civil 3D skills, Autoturn, Drainage software (StormCAD, SSA, CulvertMaster, FlowMaster, HydroCAD, PondPack, SWMM-Based programs (SWMM5, PC-SWMM, InfoSWMM, MikeUrban), HEC RAS, HEC HMS), ArcMap, Microsoft Project, Excel, and Photoshop.
  • 5+ years design experience with a specific focus on the land development projects.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices of related technical areas.
  • Self-motivated, capable of working independently or within project teams.
  • Team-spirited, focused and able to make independent decisions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • PE desired.

The ideal candidate will also need to be experienced in AutoCAD and Civil-3D. Minimum Education and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • PE required, Minimum 10 years of experience; including additional experience in planning (preferred)
  • Experience in delivering sustainability/providing sustainability advice (GI, LEED AP etc.)
